Pre-Departure Handbook
Spending a summer, full semester or year abroad is a big step. Most students will be entering a culture that is completely new to them. For others, the culture may be familiar, but it may be the first time they are living in it for an extended period or getting used to it without friends and family to support them in the adjustment. In addition to the cultural implications, there are many practical issues that every student needs to be aware of before, during and after their experience abroad. The following links will take you to a pre-departure guide created by Office of Education Abroad staff and tailored to FIU students going abroad; a general handbook that guides you through the entire experience; and a cultural workshop that you can do online.
